Are you struggling with back pain? Whether it is your upper, middle, or lower back, it is likely that you will experience some form of back pain in your life. In fact, it is estimated that nearly 32 million Americans are experiencing back pain at this moment, and that approximately 80% of the population will experience some form of back pain in their lifetime. With numbers like this it’s not surprising that back pain has grown to be the #1 cause of disability in the United States. Statistics like this should stimulate concern regarding what causes lower back pain, how to prevent it, and what the best form of treatment is once it has developed.

Our Franklin chiropractic team at the Wellness Center of Franklin,LLC aims to use this article to guide you in the right direction to answer those questions and more...

The number of injuries, misalignment, and conditions that cause back pain seems endless. The back is a very complex structure that is required to absorb stress while permitting movement. Many elements of this structure such as tendons, ligaments, discs, muscles, and bones can become irritated or damaged resulting in pain. Sometimes it is severe trauma, such as a car accident, that can result in back pain. Other times it is minor repetitive stress that causes the most damage. Therefore, you may not be able to recall any particular event that caused the onset of your pain.

In addition to all of these possibilities, physical injury is not always the primary cause. Conditions such as obesity, arthritis, kidney stones, and urinary tract infections have been shown to give symptoms of lower back pain. With all of these possibilities, it is important to find a doctor that takes into account all aspects of health to reach an accurate diagnosis. Fortunately, our team at the Wellness Center of Franklin,LLC  has many years of education and experience to determine the correct diagnosis. Without an accurate diagnosis and treatment, even the most minor conditions can develop into serious lifelong conditions.

One of the most common and painful causes of back pain is a disc bulge or herniation. However, it is important to recognize that not all disc bulges or herniation result in pain. It has been found through MRI studies that as much as 37% of the American population has a disc bulge or herniation, and the vast majority of them are experiencing no pain or other related symptoms. Unfortunately, the people who are experiencing pain often describe it as severe and intense.

The type of pain that is experienced due to a disc herniation depends on the type and position of the herniation. If the damaged disc is irritating a surrounding nerve, shooting pain and weakness into the legs may develop. The discomfort is often described as stabbing and lightning-like. To understand how a disc herniation develops, it is best to think of the disc as a jelly donuts. If the outer edges of the donuts (disc) are damaged over time, most typically from wear and tear, the jelly in the middle of the disc can escape. This level of severity can be very difficult to reverse. Chiropractic care has been shown to prevent the advancement of the herniation, and provide relief from the associated pain.

Joint dysfunction or "subluxation" is one of the most commonly overlooked contributors to back pain. Joint dysfunction is a medical term used to basically describe a vertebrae in our spine that not moving properly. When these joint dysfunctions occur, normal movement is disrupted, and a cascade of events (including pain) can occur. Joint dysfunctions can occur anywhere in the spine and there are almost an unlimited amount of factors that can cause them.

Causes of joint dysfunctions range from physical trauma, repetitive use, poor postural habits and even stress. Just as stress can contribute to the formation of an ulcer in the gut, it can also cause physiological changes in the body that result in many health issues including joint dysfunction. The time frame to correct joint dysfunctions varies by the individual, but our team at  Wellness Center of Franklin is trained to find and correct this issue quickly.

Strains and sprains can occur in anyone, but they typically occur in people who engage in tasks that their body is not accustom to. For example, a person who attempts to run a marathon during their first outing in the summer is likely to overwork these structures causing damage. Ligament sprains are typically caused by stretching the involved ligament past its limits creating tears. Muscular strains are commonly caused by lifting too heavy of an object, as well as twisting motions. Strains and sprains of the ligaments can be extremely painful, and are often accompanied by swelling and bruising of the surrounding area. Strains and sprains are intimately intertwined with the spine and therefore typically respond well to chiropractic care. Our clinic is fully equipped to provide comprehensive treatment of these injuries.

People who are chronically under stress have a very different physiological profile then those who are not. When our bodies are under intense stress, they release various stress hormones to adapt to the situation. Some of the adaptive mechanisms include; an elevated heart rate, an increased blood pressure, an altered immune system, decreased bone density, and decreased muscle mass. If this response is prolonged, elevated stress levels have been shown to contribute to the development of heart disease, digestive issues, depression, obesity, and back pain. All of the tension produced by the stress hormones causes a contraction of muscle tissue that produces “trigger points”. These trigger points can be extremely painful, but thankfully they are treated with a high success rate at

Wellness Center of Franklin.

Conditions such as obesity, arthritis, kidney stones, and urinary tract infections can cause symptoms of lower back pain. These are all serious issues that need to be identified and treated immediately to avoid long-term health issues. Many of these issues can have their source in spinal misalignments and respond well to chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Allison is trained to identify these issues and support you in getting the appropriate treatment.

When health care professionals, such as chiropractors, treat the cause of back pain rather than the symptoms, the treatment of back pain becomes less complicated. Luckily, our outstanding team is specially trained in their treatment.

As with any condition, it is recommended to take a conservative, effective, and non-invasive approach to the treatment of back pain first. If you are suffering from back pain or have any further questions, please contact our team at Wellness Center of Franklin today to schedule a consultation.

Migraines and headaches are serious and affect too many people in Franklin. If you’re not sure if you have had a migraine or not, then chances are you probably have not had one. The pain can be mind numbing, and for many patients it leaves them unable to function. The traditional medical system relies on medication for this issue in most cases, but for many patients that’s not enough. It’s important to find the source of what’s causing the problem. Our chiropractic team in Franklin can help.

There are many symptoms that can occur before a headache or migraine starts. Hallucinations, depression, or irritation are just some of the symptoms that patients experience. Often those with migraines will try to avoid light, have an intolerance to loud noises, experience nausea and vomiting to name a few.

It has been shown that chiropractic care is effective at helping people with both headaches and migraines. While most people know that they should visit the dentist, they often don’t understand that a chiropractor could help with this type of symptom. Dentists take care of our teeth, which is an important job, but your spine and nervous system control everything in your body.

The kind of treatment for headaches you need will depend on what is causing the problem. Our chiropractic team will work diligently to find the source of your headaches. Each year millions of dollars are spent treating headaches with aspirin and other drugs. While this may help in some cases, it is often not treating the cause of the problem. We are able to work at the source of the problem, which can help you prevent the need for headache medications.

Don’t suffer with headaches and migraines in Franklin. At Wellness Center of Franklin, LLC our team will help you understand the cause of your condition and the treatment necessary to fix it. Feel free to call and ask any questions that you may have.

You are not alone if you’re dealing with neck pain. Millions of people suffer, never getting the care they need. For over one hundred years chiropractors have been helping people with this condition. Our Franklin chiropractor is specifically trained to help this problem, and they have very high success rates. Read this article to learn what our team at Interactive Health can do to help you.

It is close to impossible to help a patient with neck pain if you’re not sure of the location of the problem. At the Wellness Center of Franklin we use of a variety of diagnostic tools to zero in on the source of the pain. This is the reason for the outstanding patient results that we see.

The spine is one of the most complex areas of your body, with almost every systemic nerve running through it. Muscles connected to a region of the spine that is misaligned can spasm and tighten. This tightening is believed to be a defense mechanism of the body to protect the spine and spinal cord. Bad posture and repetitive motions with a bad posture are the most common causes of misalignment that happen in the spine.

Many people let spinal problems go uncorrected. They hope that if they wait long enough their pain will just go away. In a lot of cases it probably will go away, but the misalignment that caused the problem is still there. Over time that area can become aggravated, and the pain will return. Over time without correction the problem can become much more serious. Some patients get to the point where surgery may be the only option.

If you have neck pain please don’t fall into the common vs. normal trap. The trap insinuates that because so many people have neck pain it must be normal. Neck pain is very common, but it is certainly not normal. This type of reasoning is why we see so many people with problems that can no longer be corrected. You don’t have to become a statistic of neck pain. Take control of the problem before it’s too late.

On your first visit we will begin with a health history. Our team needs to understand your condition before they can properly help you. Our hope is that your recovery will be speedy and quick.

Don’t let yourself struggle with neck pain in Franklin. Our team at Wellness Center of Franklin LLC is here and excited to help you! Call if you have any questions. Today is the day to begin chiropractic care!
